Traders count UGX 200Bn losses amid rising costs

Uganda’s once-thriving trading hub is under strain, with traders blaming excessive taxes, customs delays, and a surge of competition from foreigners for losses they estimate at over 200 billion shillings in the recent past. They say the rising cost of doing business is pushing buyers to Kenya and Tanzania, and that urgent reforms are needed to protect local traders. Betty Ndagire reports.
