Our sources at State House report rising tensions within the National Resistance Movement (NRM) as the party gears up for its upcoming Central Executive Committee (CEC) elections. Incumbent members are reportedly resisting competition from new challengers, arguing that the newcomers have not earned their place despite extensive nationwide campaigns.
On the other hand, fresh candidates insist they deserve a fair opportunity to contest for leadership roles.
One of the most closely watched contests will be between the former Speaker of Parliament and current Deputy Prime Minister, Rebecca Kadaga, and the current Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among. The two are expected to face off during the NRM National Delegates Conference scheduled for August 28th at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds. Voting will be conducted by lining up.
Meanwhile, a faction of NRM members contesting for the Entrepreneurs League slot on the National Executive Committee has petitioned President Museveni. They allege that some delegates are being hidden in Kenya and Tanzania ahead of the elections, and are calling for their immediate return to ensure transparency and fairness in the process.
The CEC electoral process officially kicks off on Monday, August 25th, with elections for the Women’s League and Entrepreneurs League. With internal rivalries intensifying, it promises to be a long and tense week for the NRM.
