In the second part of today’s report on the scramble for support in the ghettos, we examine how the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) government has recently gained favor among ghetto residents. This contrasts with the past, when many neglected residents tended to support the Opposition, who were seen as champions of the rights and welfare of ordinary people. Our conversations with some ghetto youths now reveal that they would rather be mistaken for NRM supporters to avoid what they describe as harassment by security agencies.
